STAMH has implemented a new Movibloc Archive System

THE NATIONAL LIBRARY IN PLOVDIV WILL PRESERVE VALUABLE ARCHIVES USING A BRAND-NEW MOVIBLOC SYSTEM, ENGINEERED BY STAMH GROUP

Client: The Ivan Vazov National Library in Plovdiv plays a fundamental role in the preservation of significant cultural and historical testimonies. Established as a National Library of Eastern Rumelia back in 1879, it has witnessed the participation of notable and distinguished people like Yoakim Gruyev, Konstantin Velichkov, and Petko Karavelov;

Specifics: The collection of this publicly accessible, scientific library and archive, is compounded of more than 1 900 000 documents. Annually, the library receives around 126 000 visits, borrowing over 260 000 library documents, including scientific and universal literature. Among the preserved materials are palaeotypes, ancient prints, rare and valuable editions, Bulgarian and foreign periodical issues, electronic and audiovisual documents, original artworks, and precious and unique personal collections. All these documents require proper organization and long-term preservation;

Project Location: The Ivan Vazov National Library is situated in the heart of Plovdiv, the second-largest city in Bulgaria;

Implementation period: The equipment for the library's special archive was designed and approved in two separate phases in February 2022 and April 2023. Today, the equipment has already been installed and put into operation;

Challenge: STAMH had to design a modern archive storage system tailored to the specific needs of library management. The non-standard shape of the confined space with limited natural light, made our highly specialized engineering teams design two separate systems—one, occupying 154 sq. m. and the other - occupying 195.48 sq. m;

The solution, implemented by STAMH Group: A total of 27 mobile and 5 static blocks were installed in the archive room, forming 2 parallel Movibloc Systems. The height of the first system is 2150 mm, while the other is 2300 mm high. Each position in the archive becomes accessible, opening a working corridor. Through special manual wheels, the blocks of the Movibloc System, installed on rails, can be slid in two directions, opening a working corridor only when and where needed, doubling the useful storage and archiving space;

Achievement: The new Moviblock system ensures the long-lasting preservation of valuable documents, safeguarding them from unauthorized access, light, temperature changes, dust, and contamination. Each mobile block has multiple horizontal levels, providing perfect organization and space for numerous entries.

The limited space is optimally utilized, and the capacity is significantly increased. The new Movibloc Archive System is equipped with an energy-efficient lighting system with motion sensors. It’s very secure, as the movement of the mobile blocks can be restricted by locking the blocks that open the aisle corridors.
